6. Food

In the food industry, heavy calcium carbonate can be used as an alkaline agent, nutritional supplement, dough conditioner, curing agent, yeast nutrient, anti caking agent, loosening agent, gum sugar additive, and modifier. It can also be added to calcium fortified health foods, gum sugar, leavening agent, flour products, breakfast cereals, biscuits, dairy products, soft capsules and other products. 7. Toothpaste

In the toothpaste industry, calcium carbonate is a commonly used friction agent, which is cheap and easy to obtain (using limestone or calcite as raw materials), and is widely used in mid to low grade toothpaste.

The shape, size, hardness, and content of abrasives in toothpaste are the main factors determining the friction of toothpaste. The abrasive particles should have appropriate hardness, uniform fineness, low solubility, chemical stability, white appearance, no odor, comfortable taste, and completely non-toxic.


8. Feed

Heavy calcium carbonate is a feed type mineral material used as a calcium source to supplement calcium. The general addition amount for feed is 0.5-1%. Poultry such as chickens, ducks, and geese that lay eggs need to add an appropriate amount of calcium carbonate to their feed. During the peak egg laying period, calcium carbonate can be added up to 8-9%.

For example, heavy calcium carbonate used by laying hens should not be crushed too finely, as small particles of calcium have a short residence time in the muscle and stomach, low utilization rate, and lead to a decrease in eggshell quality. Research has shown that when heavy calcium carbonate is mixed in large and small particle sizes (i.e. 75% 6-8 mesh, 12.5% 10-12 mesh, and 12.5% 50 mesh), the egg breakage rate is the lowest and the eggshell strength is the highest. This is because the mixed use of large and small particle sizes can evenly supply calcium, ensuring the quality of the eggshell. At the same time, large particles have a sand like grinding effect in the stomach, which can promote the digestion of feed.


9. Artificial stone
